It is said that the best treatment is Nidana Parivarjana i.e., to abstain from the causative factors.
There are four components of Ayurveda treatment called chikitsa chatushpad. They are the physician, medicines, Care taker/nurse and patient himself. The physician must learn practical knowledge. He should be kind and not greedy of wealth. The medicine should be of good quality or proven efficacy. Caretaker or nurse should be kind, trained and clean. The patient should be obedient and have faith in treating physician.
According to Charaka Samhita the physician should not hesitate to learn even from an enemy. There is nothing in the world which cannot be taken as medicine. It is surprising to note that 3000 years ago they knew that anemia is caused due to iron deficiency. Night blindness was treated with live. Marasums was treated with liver and meat. In Sushruta Samhita 20 sharp and 101 blunt surgical instruments are described and the surgeon was given the option of modifying or inventing any tool/technique for skin grafting, cataract operation, operations of gut, gall bladder, bladder and many other surgical methods.
